Days 11 & 12 Modelling

Unfortunately wasn't able to make it into school at all this week :'(
Started off monday morning with a running nose, watery eyes, all the signs of a cold, and then turned into something a bit nastier.

Tuesday wasn't able to do much of anything, tried to do some research into game level design, and look at in game examples, but honestly the day's a bit of a blur now.
Wednesday I was starting to feel a bit better and managed to get started on the modelling, and here is how far I got:

Not very productive, I know but its a start.

Today I'm mostly better, and got started on assets for debris, here are my sketches:

and here is what I have modeled so far:

Hopefully I'm back in action tomorrow and can pump out the rest :)

Day 10 Homework

And here is the concept for the Hydroponics

Day 10 Concepting

Been at home with a cold today so I primarily went over the perspective exercises again until the very idea of drawing another cube filled me with fatigue, and then I worked on my concept for a capacitor bay (think large battery) and here it is:

The capacitors themselves (the Cylinders) aren't great but I think I'm getting better at them.

Which leaves me with the Hydroponics to go, which is probably the easiest asset (I say now ;) ) which I'll get to tonight.

Environment Concept

So all the practice has boiled down into these concept images for the level:
The overall Layout:
The Steam Boiler:

The Steam Turbine:

Still need to concept the battery/Capacitor bank, the hydroponics, and probably some other things that will come up tomorrow, but I'm happy with this for the moment.

Asset Studies

So I've been sketching out the assets I'm planning for our environment, keeping perspective in mind but not using a grid at this stage as I'm just trying to get a feel for it.

Perspective Practice

Continuing to practice perspective,  I started this morning with some some plane and box sketches both traditionally and digitally, as suggested as practice on the Ctrl+Paint perspective drills video ( http://ctrlpaint.com/videos/perspective/ ) here is the digital example:

The following exercises were using the ctrl paint worksheets supplied in the above link, or as part of their premium Perspective series 1 & 2 which I highly recommend getting, they're pretty cheap at $10 each.

The first was drawing flat rectangles on a perspective grid.

and then finding the horizon line.

I continued to practice this on downloaded photographs which I won't show as I don't own the images. and then moved onto boxes

I think I'm starting to get my head around it but much more practice needed.

Day 9 Perspective + Homework

So today I really didn't get much towards the assignment done, the few sketches I did just didn't seem to be getting me anywhere, so Instead I have been working hard on the foundations of perspective.
Mainly doing lines at this stage, I did 20 pages of drawing lines through points, and then more in photoshop using the click shift+Click method, for example:

Day 8 Environment Concepting +Homework

Yesterday started concepting, which I will probably continue until school starts again next week, after dedicating some time to internalising perspective.

It may not seem like a lot, but most of it was about fleshing out the idea and testing different things out, something I'm currently pretty slow at it seems, but I'm sure that will improve as I practice.

As to homework, I roughed out a basic grey box in Maya and did some renders from different angles to get a better idea of how it would look in 3D space.
